Former University of Tennessee basketball player Grant Williams had a solid outing for Boston Friday night.
His performance was not enough to propel Boston into the win column as the Celtics fell 96-93 to Detroit at Little Caesars Arena.
It was the Pistons’ first victory of the season.
Williams scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds for the Celtics (3-3), who fell behind, 27-12, in the first quarter.
The former Vol is in his second season in Boston. He was a first-round pick by the Celtics in the 2019 NBA draft, going with the No. 22 overall selection.
He played for the Volunteers between 2016-19, leaving after his junior season as the two-time Southeastern Conference Player of the Year.
