There was a time when Boston Celtics second-year forward Grant Williams could not find a fellow Celtic to play “Settlers of Catan” with — but with a little seniority behind his belt, it seems the Tennessee product has found a pair of prospects from the 2020 NBA draft to join him.
Williams is a fan of the cerebral role playing board game popular among the author’s nerdier grad student friends and — famously — the Boston big man’s Volunteers squads.
And he evidently managed to rope rookie forward Aaron Nesmith and first-year floor general Payton Pritchard into a game after their arrival in Boston post-draft.
The Charlotte native celebrated the win over his new teammates with a tweet on Sunday.
Just beat @paytonpritch3 and @aaronnesmith24 last night. To all the Vol Fans out there Catan is back!! Celtics Edition😄 https://t.co/DsKIB9Y0c4

“Just beat [Payton Pritchard] and Aaron Nesmith last night. To all the Vol Fans out there Catan is back!! Celtics Edition,” wrote Williams.
And while the former Vol likely is happy he has some new heads to play the brainy board game, he shared that he “played enough Catan for a generation at Tennessee,” said Williams in an article on the Tennessee product’s love for the game from last winter by the Boston Globe’s Nicole Yang.
