As much disappointment as there was with the Tennessee Titans’ decision to not take a cornerback in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, general manager Jon Robinson was able to more than make up for it in the second.
Thanks to a little patience, the Titans were able to grab a corner who was considered by many to be a top-five player at his position in this year’s draft in LSU cornerback, Kristian Fulton.
In fact, based on what we saw from experts and their mocks, Fulton should have gone somewhere in the first round, and certainly not late in the second.
Fulton can truly do it all and he’ll be able to make an impact from the jump after facing top-notch competition in the best conference in the nation.
His 6-foot, 197-pound frame and toughness allows him to hang with bigger receivers on the outside, but he also has the speed to run with burners and play in the slot if that’s where the Titans need him.
This is a pick that checks multiple boxes for Tennessee and addresses a huge area of need in a big way.
He can be top-notch depth and a slot corner in 2020, and then transition to the outside and allow the Titans to move on from Malcolm Butler’s massive contract in 2021.
If cornerback was the target all along at the No. 61 overall pick, the Titans couldn’t have done any better than Fulton. I don’t normally give a plus or minus at the end of my grade, but for this one I can make an exception.
Grade: A+
