Gotham Knights gameplay trailer shows a lot more than co-op Batman

You can watch it right here.

You can still see a lot of the DNA of the Arkham games in there – from combos, to NPC dialogue, to UI and tools – but plenty of new stuff too. It’s taken on a lot of the open-world leanings off many other games, with a hub area and upgradeable armour.

Notably abscent is any mention of additonal co-op, and a reconfirmation of two-player-only, despite rumours to the contrary in recent days. Co-op combat looks fun and responsive, but the whole thing definitely doesn’t feel as smooth and different as Arkham did in its heyday. There’s certainly some animation oddities in there as well. Plus I laughed at “non-lethal rounds.”

No change to release date or other major additions – but the game is no longer coming out for Xbox One or PlayStation 4, “to provide players with the best gameplay experience.” Translation: those other platforms take a lot to develop for and optimisation wasn’t worth it for the additional sales it might generate.

No doubt we’ll see more of Gotham Knights in the Summer’s game events as we run up to October 25.
