Gordon Hayward sprains ankle; unlikely to play vs. Celtics on Sunday

The former Celtic forward sprained his ankle in Charlotte’s win over the Pacers.

It seems as if a reunion on the court with former Boston Celtics veteran forward Gordon Hayward at TD Garden this Sunday may not be in the cards after the Indiana native injured himself in a game against the Indiana Pacers on Friday night.

The former Celtic swingman sprained his right ankle on a drive in the Hornets’ 114 – 97 win over the Indiana Pacers. “Gordon was having a heck of a game,” said Hornets head coach James Borrego after the game. No indication was given at the time of writing as to whether the former Celtic would be available when Charlotte plays Boston this weekend, but it seems likely the Butler product will be on the sidelines for the contest.

Hayward and the Hornets have exceeded expectations this season, and will be a serious challenge for the Celtics in the midst of their current home stand on the heels of a much-needed win over the Houston Rockets.

There will be two more meetings between the two teams including another at TD Garden on April 28, with Boston traveling to Charlotte for a road game against the Hornets three days earlier on the 25th.

The former Celtic may well yet get another chance to face his former team on its own home court if he is not available to play Sunday night.
