Gordon Hayward has a ‘beard-stache’ — is it good luck for Boston?

The Butler product has been sporting some unusual facial hair recently — is there a connection to the Celtics’ recent blowout wins?

You may have noticed a little something different on veteran forward Gordon Hayward’s face in recent days; the Indiana native has been sporting some unusual facial hair NBC Sports Boston’s Abby Chin couldn’t help but inquire about on Saturday’s Boston Celtics media availability session.

“Gordon, I’m going to start it off light,” said Chin, “and I know we can’t see it, but the moustache — was that an intentional thing you have going on for the ‘bubble’?”

“It’s intentional,” came the reply from the Butler product.

“It’s a ‘beard-stache,’ I’m trying to make it work. My wife doesn’t like it so much,” he added. “I think it’s more aerodynamic — the wind goes right off of it, you know?”

At least to the Celtics Wire, Hayward’s new facial adornment seems to ride the line between 1970s porn star and Magnum PI — and if nothing else seems like quite the good luck charm given the Celtics’ recent spate of blowouts.

You’d better not shave that thing while you’re out of the ‘bubble’, Hayward.

Also, save Abby Chin’s job, please, NBC Boston.

As you were.
