NASCAR is ready for the weekend at Watkins Glen International, as the second race in the Round of 16 will be underway. The NASCAR Cup Series is coming off a drama-packed weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway, which saw Joey Logano lock himself into the Round of 12. Now, the sport is set for what is going to be another highly unpredictable weekend.
Goodyear will bring a new tire to Watkins Glen, which is projected to have “three seconds of fall off per lap over a run.” NASCAR tested this tire at Watkins Glen in June with Tyler Reddick, Austin Cindric, and Daniel Suarez. The new tires mean there will be more comers and goers, as taking care of the tires is one of the most critical factors during the event.
The NextGen car has struggled on road courses since its debut in 2022, so this new tire should help drivers be more in control and be able to pass other competitors. Reddick spun multiple times during the tire test in June, so these tires will challenge the field. After an intense weekend in Atlanta, Sunday’s race at Watkins Glen won’t be easier.
