Did you miss Iowa football over the break? Well, just for you Kirk Ferentz decided to cook up the most perfect Iowa game.
No, I do not mean it was a perfect game for the Hawkeyes. They did not come out looking like a completely different unit — a competent one on offense for instance. Deacon Hill didn’t magically gain the ability to make wide-open throws, and Brian Ferentz surely didn’t suddenly learn how to draw up a good playbook.
No, this was the most Iowa win you can imagine, beating Northwestern, 10-7. This game went into halftime scoreless, and nobody thought either side would score. As usual, Iowa only stumbled into the end zone because of heavy assist from the special teams. A blocked punt nearly guaranteed points for the Hawkeyes. The defense stood tall all day, minus giving up a single touchdown drive on a short field late in the game.
Kirk Ferentz made the mind-boggling decision to place it in the hands, well feet, of his kicker Drew Stevens. The young kicker, with ice in his veins, nailed a 52-yard field goal with a little over a minute left to give the Hawkeyes a 10-7 win.
You know the deal by now. This game stunk. It was hard to watch, and that makes for funny social media reactions. Here are the best of the bunch!
