Tom Brady will be playing for a new team and head coach for the first time in 20 years when he takes the field for the Buccaneers this season.
The six-time Super Bowl champion shocked many by leaving the Patriots for a franchise that hasn’t been to the playoffs since 2007. And, at age 42, many question whether Brady will be able to turn the Bucs into a winner during the two years of his contract.
Bucs general manager Jason Licht appeared on SportsCenter with Scott Van Pelt recently and spoke about whether there is a sense of urgency to win now for the Bucs and if that could put pressure on a young team with little playoff experience.
Per Licht:
“I don’t have a lot of concerns on that right now. We have a head coach [Bruce Arians] that, to be quite frank, isn’t gonna be here for the next 15, 20 years coaching the Buccaneers. So I think it was actually a perfect marriage: You’ve got two guys that have got something to prove; they want to win, they want to win now; they’ve got the same mindset.”
Tampa Bay is going all-in on Brady these next two years, and rightfully so. When you have a future Hall of Fame quarterback, even one past 40, you maximize the opportunity while you have it. It seems the Bucs are doing that for 2020.
