Gimmie Him: Aaron Donald would fix Patriots pass-rushing woes

Aaron Donald is exactly who the New England Patriots need.

As the New England gets set to take on the Rams Thursday evening, there is one player from L.A. the Patriots would benefit from having. It’s Aaron Donald. No doubt.

Donald is having a monster season for the Rams, and has continued to cement himself as one of the best pass-rushers in the NFL. On the season, Donald has 11 sacks, and the way he has managed to accumulate them is impressive.

Most recently against Arizona, he recorded three tackles and a sack. His best game of the season came on October 11 against Washington. In that game, he recorded four sacks and a forced fumble. He has recorded a sack three of the last four games, and has been able to shoulder the load for Los Angeles.

He has recorded at least 10 sacks in four straight seasons, his best year came in 2018, when he tallied 20.5 sacks.

When you consider that Donald has 11 sacks just this year, and the Patriots have 18 sacks as a team, there is no denying that Donald would be a game-changer defensively. He would be able to help stop the run as well as contain the pass.

New England ranks toward the top half of the National Football League with 21.3 points allowed per game. That is seventh best. With Donald’s agility as well as his ability to get into the backfield quickly, that number would decrease even more.

New England has not had a true past-rushing threat since Chandler Jones. Jones recorded 12.5 sacks in 2015. Ever sense his departure, New England has been looking for a consistent pass-rusher. Donald would be able to provide that, and would be a game-changer for New England defensively.

Aaron Donald in  a Patriots jersey would be a sight to behold. Nevertheless, it is likely a pipe dream.
