The Chicago Bears will kick off the 2023 NFL season against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, which starts a new era in this historic rivalry.
Here at Bears Wire, we’re conducting a fun exercise where we hypothetically steal one player from the Packers roster to help bolster this current roster.
There are certainly plenty of options on Green Bay’s roster — and some holes on this Chicago roster. Preston Smith, Kenny Clark, Elgton Jenkins, David Bakhtiari and Aaron Jones are just a few names that are intriguing options.
But the one that stands out is Jaire Alexander, who is one of the NFL’s best cornerbacks. Alexander is a two-time Pro Bowler and two-time Second-Team All-Pro. Last season, Alexander had a career-high five interceptions and 14 pass breakups.
In the last meeting between the Bears and Packers, Alexander had seven tackles, two tackles for loss, one pass breakup and an interception of quarterback Justin Fields in Week 13.
Chicago upgraded their cornerback group this offseason with the additions of rookies Tyrique Stevenson and Terell Smith, who join veterans Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon. But the idea of a cornerback duo of Alexander and Johnson is just too tantalizing.
Alexander will be responsible for containing new Bears receiver DJ Moore this Sunday, where the hope is Moore has the kind of impact he had in limted preseason action.
