Well, PlayStation appears to have yet another hit franchise on its hand with Ghost of Tsushima.
On Wednesday, developer Sucker Punch announced that Ghost of Tsushima has sold over 8 million copies worldwide. That number likely includes both Ghost of Tsushima on PS4 and the Director’s Cut on PS5, though Sucker Punch did not clarify. Safe bet that it does, though.
It seems open-world stealth action set in feudal Japan is a winning combination, not that there was any doubt that a PlayStation first-party title would sell like gangbusters. Ghost of Tsushima is even getting a big-budget film adaptation, which the director wants to get right.
We're thrilled and amazed that #GhostOfTsushima has officially sold more than 8 million copies!

Ghost of Tsushima made it on our list of best historical games, even though it takes massive liberties with the events surrounding the Mongols invasion of Tsushima Island. For example, haiku and katanas had yet to be invented by that point! Again, it’s not all that accurate.
Still, it’s clearly doing something right with sales figures like these. Anyone with a PS4 or PS5 would be wise to give it at least a go, especially as there’s a bit of a lull in first-party Playstation releases until Horizon Forbidden West comes out next month.
