Stop me if you’ve heard this one before, but Bryson DeChambeau needs more time.
The 28-year-old withdrew from this week’s PGA Tour stop at the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, on Tuesday while he continues to recover from a nagging wrist injury. John Huh will replace him in the field.
“I’m definitely close but don’t have the endurance for 4 full days yet. Getting there,” DeChambeau said in a text to Golfweek. “Taking a bit of time to make sure it’s fully healed.”
The eight-time winner on Tour hasn’t played since the Masters, where he missed the cut after struggling through the first two rounds with a 76 on Thursday and an 80 on Friday, his highest score in a major championship.
After arriving at Southern Hills last week for the PGA Championship, where he also withdrew, DeChambeau said: “It’s a day-to-day thing. If I can’t go this week, I’ll play next week. If I can’t play next week, it will be a week-to-week thing.”
