Georgia stuns Texas in overtime SEC championship victory

Georgia wins the SEC championship over Texas 22-19 in the first ever SEC title game that went to overtime

The Georgia Bulldogs are SEC champions after toppling the Texas Longhorns in the 2024 SEC championship game. Georgia overcame adversity again in their 22-19 overtime victory over the Longhorns.

Georgia has secured a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff as a result and will more than likely be the No. 2 seed in the bracket. Georgia quarterback Carson Beck left the game after getting hit on a hail mary at the end of the first half.

Back up quarterback Gunner Stockton led Georgia on a second half touchdown drive and helped Georgia have a more dynamic rushing attack. Head coach Kirby Smart called a fake punt that helped UGA tack on another field goal in the second half.

Georgia won the Dawgs’ third SEC championship of the Kirby Smart era. The Bulldogs allowed Texas to gain 112 more total yards of offense, but UGA forced numerous field goal attempts and did not allow a single red zone touchdown all game.

Georgia running back Trevor Etienne rushed for 94 yards on 16 carries and scored two touchdowns. Etienne’s touchdown in overtime was UGA’s second straight week with a walk-off touchdown.
