Georgia losing top assistant coach to FBS program

According to reports from those like 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz, current Georgia running backs coach Dell McGee is expected to be named the new head football coach at Georgia State in the near future.

McGee will replace former Georgia State head coach Shawn Elliott, who was recently named the new tight ends coach at South Carolina.

One of the top recruiters in the SEC, McGee has been the Bulldogs running backs coach since 2016. Under McGee, Georgia has produced some of the SEC’s top running backs, a list that includes the likes of Nick Chubb, Sony Michel, D’Andre Swift, and Zamir White, among others.

If hired, McGee will be the second Georgia assistant coach to leave Athens in the last two weeks, as former wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon is now with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the NFL.

McGee would take over a Georgia State program that went 7-6 overall and 3-5 in Sun Belt play a year ago.
