The Georgia Bulldogs relied on the efficient running of halfback D’Andre Swift last season until he was limited late due to injury. The shoulder injury will keep him off the bench press during his 2020 NFL Combine, but it didn’t hold him back at the podium.
Swift spoke with confidence on Wednesday morning during his media availability at the combine. Chiefs Wire Contributor Ed Easton Jr. was among the media members to listen to Swift’s thoughts on various topics.
While Swift hadn’t met with any teams yet, he had some thoughts on the possibility of joining the Kansas City Chiefs’ high-powered offense this upcoming season.
“It would be amazing,” said Swift. “Just seeing how they use each player differently that would be amazing. Seeing how they use Mecole (Hardman) was nice too.”
Hardman was teammates with Swift before he was drafted by the Chiefs last offseason. Now a Pro Bowl selection and Super Bowl champion, Hardman has also become a mentor to the 21-year old running back.
“That’s a good friend of mine,” Swift said. “I was with him last week training in the offseason, so we talked about how this process would be like and how his process went.”
Swift led the Bulldogs with 1,218 yards rushing this season on 6.21 yards per carry. He is projected by many critics to be the first running back selected in April’s draft. He stated his case to be the top RB taken in the first round.
“I think I’m the most versatile back in this class,” Swift claimed. “I think I’m a three-down back I can do whatever I’m asked to do I believe God gave me a lot of God-given ability, so I don’t take that for granted I work hard every day, great leader.”
As fans begin to plot out prospects that fit in Kansas City, it’s important to note that Swift models his game after a running back who became a Super Bowl champion with the Chiefs recently.
“LeSean McCoy,” Swift said. “I’ve been watching him since I was young. Just the way he makes people miss in open space.”
The Chiefs select last in the first round No. 32 overall in April’s draft. The reuniting of two Georgia Bulldogs in Hardman and Swift could be a unique card to play for general manager Brett Veach.
