The Georgia Bulldogs are the only SEC school without an incoming transfer 17 days after the NCAA transfer portal opened on Dec. 9. Even Dabo Swinney and Clemson has added an incoming transfer. Georgia has missed out on several quarterback and wide receiver targets to start the winter transfer portal window.
Georgia has nine outgoing transfers ahead of the Bulldogs’ College Football Playoff quarterfinal game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the Sugar Bowl.
Every SEC school that is not in the playoff has at least four transfer commitments. Georgia (zero), Texas (three) and Tennessee (one) have four transfer commitments combined. It is clear that teams in the playoff are not as active in the transfer portal than teams that are playing in bowl games.
Head coach Kirby Smart and Georgia typically don’t put a major emphasis on the portal, but Georgia does usually add a few significant transfers to fill holes on the roster. Georgia is still figuring out who will be the Bulldogs’ quarterback in 2025, so that’s a major thing to watch develop over the next several weeks.
Additionally, Georgia still has a major transfer target in USC Trojans wide receiver Zachariah Branch, who is one of the top ranked players in the portal.
