Georgia has no transfer commitments after portal window closes

Georgia is the only SEC team with no incoming transfer commitments after the closure of the winter transfer portal window

The Georgia Bulldogs have no incoming transfer commitments after the closure of the winter transfer portal window. The portal closed on Dec. 28, however, players already in the portal can sign with teams at any time.

Georgia is the only SEC school without an incoming transfer commitment or signee. Even Dabo Swinney and Clemson added a transfer this cycle.

While the transfer portal entry period has passed for most players, there are two ways more players can still enter.

Players have five days after their bowl game to enter the portal, so Georgia players can enter the transfer portal up to five days after the Sugar Bowl (or whichever game UGA loses from here on).

In addition, whenever a program has a coaching change, its players have a new window in which they can enter the portal.

Georgia had nine players enter the portal during the winter window, including several former five-star recruits.

Coach Kirby Smart and Georgia struck out on several quarterback and wide receiver targets in the winter transfer portal window. The Bulldogs still have several elite targets that remain uncommitted.

Every SEC school that did not make the playoff has at least four transfer commitments. The conference’s three schools to make the playoff have four transfer commitments combined. Georgia (zero), Texas (three) and Tennessee (one) have not been as active as the rest of the SEC in the portal.

Georgia doesn’t put a major emphasis on the portal, but UGA usually adds a few key transfers to fill holes across the roster. Most notably, Georgia does not know who will start at quarterback next season after Carson Beck announced his intentions to enter the 2025 NFL draft.
