2025 recruit Walter “Buddy” Mathis Jr, is from Savannah (Georgia) Calvary Day High School. H is one of the many new USC Trojan targets who have been offered by coaches Shaun Nua, Alex Grinch, and Lincoln Riley this week.
The 6-foot-2, 270-pound four-star defensive lineman has seen his recruitment become very active and busy in recent months.
Mathis, as a sophomore, had 4.5 sacks for the Savannah Cavalry Cavaliers to go with 11 quarterback hurries, the latter of which was tied for a team-high. He also had 18.5 tackles for loss, second only to junior teammate Jordan Davis, who is another four-star recruit.
USC holds one commitment in the 2025 cycle from five-star Alabama safety Anquon Fegans, the No. 2 rated safety in the 247Sports rankings.
USC has not collected a lot of pickups in the 2025 cycle. Even though it is very, very early, the Trojans would like to build some momentum and feel stronger about the idea that they can connect with recruits in the Deep South and convince them that USC should be a destination program.
