George Kliavkoff confident the remaining Pac-12 schools will stay loyal

George Kliavkoff is confident that his 10 remaining schools will stay put

What will the Pac-12 Conference look like once USC and UCLA leave? At this point, nobody knows.

After the bombshell report dropped over the summer, there were many discussions about teams leaving, and the Colorado Buffaloes were one of a handful of schools mentioned as candidates to leave for the Big 12.

Here in September, still nothing has surfaced, and Pac-12 Commissioner George Kliavoff mentioned to Pac-12 insiders John Canzano and Jon Wilner that he still wants UCLA to return as the conference works on a new media rights deal.

In the same discussion with Canzano and Wilner, Kliavkoff said that he doesn’t anticipate any other Pac-12 schools leaving for the Big 12 — at least not yet (h/t Jon Wilner of the San Jose Mercury News).

“I don’t feel, candidly, any sense of urgency at this point. No one’s going anywhere; we’re all together; we’re focused on doing this.”

He didn’t stop there, either.

“At this point, our 10 schools are completely focused on the future and being together … It’s now almost a running joke at our board meetings: ‘What’s the latest nonsense that someone has thrown against the wall and seeing whether someone will report?”‘

That’s an interesting comment from Kliavkoff. Surely some of these programs must be interested in moving to the Big 12, although the Buffs returning back to that conference would be surprising.

Nonetheless, there are still many questions regarding Pac-12 realignment, and we might not get any real clarity until the offseason comes.
