George Hill on the road trip with Sixers, don’t expect him any time soon

Philadelphia 76ers guard George Hill is still a ways away from making his NBA debut.

The Philadelphia 76ers made their big deadline move back on March 25 when they acquired George Hill from the Oklahoma City Thunder in a 3-team deal. He has not played since Jan. 24 after undergoing a procedure on his thumb to correct an issue to make sure that it will never happen again.

Hill has yet to suit up for Philadelphia due to his recovery from that injury and time is beginning to run out of the regular season before the playoffs begin on May 22. It would help the team a lot if they can get him on the floor as quickly as possible to get acclimated with the team.

As the Sixers begin a 4-game road trip on Tuesday against the Boston Celtics, Hill is on the trip with the team, but he is still a ways away from making his debut for Philadelphia.

“He’s on the trip,” said coach Doc Rivers. “He’s not playing yet, but he’s on the trip and he shot today. Again, there’s no timetable that I know of, to be honest. I can’t see it anytime soon, honestly.”

Rivers explained that he had that same injury when he was a player so he understands the recovery time needed for it.

“I had that same injury and that’s not anything, you mess around with and just one whack, you may not get injured, but the pain is excruciating because your nerves are so raw,” Rivers explained. “We’re going to try to be as tentative as possible with this injury.”

Until he is ready to play, Hill has been going over the playbook with Rivers and the rest of the coaching staff and he is also pointing things out to the younger guys on the floor.

“He’s been great at our shoot arounds,” the coach added. “He’s standing literally like one of the coaches. He’s absorbing, he’s actually making points defensively to some of our young guys so he’s absorbing a lot.”

At this point, Hill will continue to make his impact off the floor until he is ready to go and make his debut.
