FOX 8 New Orleans’ Olivia Vidal and Sean Fazende met with New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson at an event on Monday, taking a moment to ask for her insight on head coach Sean Payton. Payton’s future with the team has been the focus of national media speculation in recent weeks, with NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport suggesting Sunday that Payton could be considering an early retirement to step away from coaching and try out broadcasting.
“Who knows?” Benson responded when asked about Sean Payton’s intentions for 2022. She added, laughing: “We’ll find out soon enough, I guess. I don’t think any of us know, but he’ll let us know soon enough.”
This followed a report from NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill that Payton was spotted at the team facility Monday, having wrapped up a long post-season vacation before returning to his office. What he’s going to do now that he’s back in town is anyone’s guess, but it’s been previously reported that Payton is expected to continue with his duties as normal, scouting draft prospects at the upcoming Senior Bowl before visiting Los Angeles ahead of Super Bowl LVI.
