Florida football head coach Billy Napier and wide receiver [autotag]Ricky Pearsall[/autotag] made guest appearances on Gator Talk Thursday night, a weekly radio segment hosted by Gators broadcaster Sean Kelley.
Both guests were asked questions by Kelley and members of the audience about their experiences in Florida and their outlook on the season.
Kelley pointed out that Pearsall’s father, Ricky Pearsall Sr., compiled 1,802 yards in his collegiate career at Northern Arizona. Pearsall Jr. tacked on 92 yards during the road trip loss to the No. 12 Utah Utes, placing him 256 yards away from surpassing his father.
If Pearsall keeps the trend up from last Thursday, he’ll surpass his dad’s statistics before or during the Week 5 matchup with the Kentucky Wildcats.
“He’s going down,” Pearsall jokingly remarked.
Pearsall and his father had plentiful conversations regarding the personal milestone. Pearsall Sr. reminded his son that he recorded his stats in two years, but Junior had a clever comeback.
“I told him I have to do it in a harder conference,” Pearsall said. “The better conference.”
Kelley and Pearsall joked that once the milestone was passed, Pearsall should sign the game ball and gift it to his father.
“That’d be very petty, but I’m down,” Pearsall said.
Ricky Pearsall is a senior transfer from Arizona State and has been a staple in every offense with his speed and movability.
The Gator wideout became the top option for previous quarterback and first-round pick Anthony Richardson, hauling in a pass for 29 consecutive games. But a statistic like that is the last thing on Pearsall’s mind.
“Every time I go on the field, it’s a one-play mentality and how I can benefit the team in that play,” Pearsall said. “So I don’t really think about that very much.”
