Gators to get top 2025 defensive lineman for visit this fall

It’s looking like the Gators will be hosting a myriad of top prep prospects in the Swamp for the Tennessee game.

Billy Napier’s primary focus in rebuilding Florida football’s program has been on the recruiting front, where he and his staff have made leaps and bounds of improvement over the previous administration when it comes to luring top prep prospects to the Swamp.

Five-star defensive lineman [autotag]Elijah Griffin[/autotag] out of Savannah (Georgia) Christian Prep in the 2025 cycle is one of the most coveted members of his class. The 6-foot-5-inch, 285-pound trench warrior recently divulged his plans to visit campus this coming fall to 247Sports, noting that he plans to be in Gainesville when the Gators open their SEC schedule at home against the Tennessee Volunteers on Sept. 16.

Along with Florida, the Georgia Bulldogs, South Carolina Gamecocks, Clemson Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, Oklahoma Sooners, Oregon Ducks and USC Trojans were among the schools to reach out to him immediately after the start of the contact period on Aug. 1.

The blue-chip recruit also plans on visiting Georgia’s game against the UT-Martin Skyhawks, Alabama’s game against the Texas Longhorns and Clemson’s game against South Carolina.

Griffin is ranked No. 2 overall and No. 1 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking also agrees with those respective rankings. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has the Gamecocks in front for his commitment with a 38.6% chance of landing him, followed by UGA (26.9%), Clemson (6.2%) and the Florida State Seminoles (5.2%).
