Gators stand pat in first CBS Sports bracketology update of 2024

The Gators make a lateral move in CBS Sports’ bracketology ahead of the start of SEC play.

The Southeastern Conference schedule starts for Florida basketball this weekend as the Gators prepare for its annual gauntlet run through the league. After some early trip-ups, Todd Golden’s gang appears to be hitting their stride — and just in time.

Florida has won six in a row following a perfect month of December but the quality of those victories has been lacking, leaving the program voteless in the major polls and down near the bottom of most of the March Madness brackets.

The story is no different with CBS Sports writer Jerry Palm and his latest bracketology, which was the first he has published since mid-December. Much like in the previous update, the Gators are a No. 11 seed in the Midwest bracket, as compared to their prior No. 11 seed in the South.

The Orange and Blue are also in the Midwest’s first four set to face the No. 11 St. John’s Red Storm, as well as among the last four in.

Whipping around the SEC, the Tennessee Volunteers (No. 2), Kentucky Wildcats (No. 3), Ole Miss Rebels (No. 6), Auburn Tigers (No. 8), Alabama Crimson Tide (No. 8), Texas A&M Aggies (No. 8) and South Carolina Gamecocks (No. 10).

Florida opens up its SEC schedule on Saturday against Kentucky inside the O’Connell Center on Jan. 6. Tipoff is scheduled for an early 12:30 p.m. ET start and the game can be watched on ESPN.
