Gators slip a seed, still in thick of CBS Sports’ bracketology

Florida slipped a little in CBS Sports’ bracketology but are still firmly in the field for the Big Dance.

Todd Golden’s Gators missed out on a huge opportunity to score a big win last Saturday against the Texas A&M Aggies in College Station. Instead of extending their winning streak to five games and adding another huge conference road win to their résumé, Florida fell in the final minute, 67-66.

The results had some minor effects on recent bracketology updates, including the latest from CBS Sports‘ Jerry Palm.

In his last update, the Orange and Blue were firmly in the field with a No. 8 seed in the South region, paired up with the No. 9 St. Mary’s Gaels to open things up in Memphis, Tennessee. After the TAMU loss, however, Florida fell a spot to No. 9 and paired up with the No. 8 Utah Utes — still in the South region with the opening game played in Memphis, Tennessee.

The top-seeded Houston Cougars and No. 16 Quinnipiac Bobcats also remain in the bracket with the Gators.

Looking around the Southeastern Conference, bracketology update includes the Tennessee Volunteers (No. 2), Alabama Crimson Tide (No. 3), South Carolina Gamecocks (No. 3), Auburn Tigers (No. 5), Kentucky Wildcats (No. 6), Ole Miss Rebels (No. 8), Mississippi State Bulldogs (No. 10) and Texas A&M (No. 12); the Aggies are also among the “first four” and “last four in” categories.

Florida will return home to host Auburn on Saturday, Feb. 10, inside the O’Connell Center. Tipoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
