Florida basketball struggled mightily out of the gates on Wednesday night against the Texas A&M Aggies in College Station but was able to claw back into the game, only to fall short in the end, 54-52. It was the fourth-straight loss to TAMU for the Gators’ program, all of which have been a one-score difference including an overtime affair in last year’s Southeastern Conference Tournament that snuffed UF’s NCAA Tournament hopes.
The Orange and Blue started off the day ranked No. 37 in ESPN’s Basketball Power Index, which has been the most bullish of the objective rankings throughout the season when it comes to Todd Golden’s squad. Following the loss, Florida fell just a single spot to No. 38; the Aggies, who were ranked No. 27 before their victory actually fell a couple of spots to No. 29.
Next up for Florida is a road trip to face the Mississippi State Bulldogs late Saturday night. MSU holds a 12-6 record overall but just a 1-5 mark in conference play and is currently ranked No. 48 in the BPI. Tipoff is set for 8:30 p.m. EST inside Humphrey Coliseum in Starkville, Mississippi and the game can be watched on the SEC Network or head on the Gators IMG Sports Network.
