The Gators took down the South Carolina Gamecocks Saturday, 38-6, and picked up some support from the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll voters as a result.
Florida finished with eight points in this week’s poll, which is good for an unofficial share of the No. 34 spot on the list. Pittsburgh and Kentucky also received eight votes.
It’s a bit surprising to see Florida struggle to garner any support at this point this year considering the quality of losses the team has suffered so far. Three of Florida’s four losses this season have come to teams that are currently ranked in the top 10 (Georgia, LSU and Tennessee). The Kentucky loss looks a bit worse now that the Wildcats have stumbled out of the top 25 and are losing to the like of Vanderbilt, though.
UF has two more weeks to impress the votes, and a win over Florida State in the regular season finale might just do the trick. The Seminoles are currently ranked No. 20 in the Coaches Poll, so it’d be a quality win for the Gators.
Here’s a look at the poll in its entirety.
