Florida football’s efforts on the recruiting front are back in full gear as Billy Napier and Co. continue to rebuild a struggling Gators program from the ground up.
The staff handed out multiple scholarship offers on Wednesday, with several of them going to players from a South Florida school. Among them was defensive back [autotag]Robert Jones III[/autotag] out of Vero Beach High in the 2025 cycle, who was stoked by the good news.
“The Florida Gators have always been one of my favorite schools since I was young,” he told Gators Online. “Just getting this offer was a truly blessing and I have visited Gainesville a couple times. I just love how they treat their recruits.”
The 6-foot-1-inch, 165-pound defender has also received offers from the Auburn Tigers, Miami Hurricanes, Missouri Tigers, Louisville Cardinals, Kentucky Wildcats, West Virginia Mountaineers, North Carolina State Wolfpack, South Florida Bulls and Central Florida Knights, among others.
Still, it appears that the Orange and Blue have an edge on the competition.
“Florida is definitely real high on my list,” Jones noted. “I will probably try to get up there soon with my family.”
The Sunshine State product amassed 19 tackles (14 solo) along with nine pass deflections and two interceptions during his 2023 campaign, also adding a receiving touchdown as well, per MaxPreps.
Jones is currently unrated and unranked by all of the major scouting agencies. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has USF in the lead for his talents with a 7.9% chance of landing him, followed by UCF (6.9%), Florida (5.9%) and the Florida Atlantic Owls (5.0%).
