The week is nearly over and Gators football is just a day away! Tomorrow, the Florida Gators will travel to Knoxville to take on the Tennessee Volunteers in what was once a storied rivalry that has tipped tremendously in Florida’s favor the past 15 years.
Meanwhile, the men’s basketball team won its second-straight game on back-to-back days to open its season after the first three games on the schedule were canceled due to COVID concerns. Keyontae Johnson led UF to an authoritative 90-70 win over Boston College with a double-double performance, notching 12 points and 12 rebounds while adding an assist and a steal. Florida next plays the Stetson Hatters on Sunday in the O’Connell Center for its home opener, with tip off scheduled for 2 p.m. EST.
In addition to the football game tomorrow, the women’s basketball team will also be in action at home against the Cincinnati Bearcats. The Lady Gators continue their homestand after defending their turf against the Charleston Southern Buccaneers on Wednesday with a win. The gals bring a 2-1 record into the matchup while the Lady Bearcats won their season opener to give them a 1-0 tally on the year.
Around the Swamp
- What to watch for when the Gators travel to take on Tennessee: Over the last two decades, its rivalry with Tennessee has been extremely one-sided. The Gators have lost just one game to the Volunteers since 2004.
- Behind Enemy Lines: Talking Florida-Tennessee with Vols Wire: What was once a must-win game to claim an SEC East title has become a bit of an afterthought during UF’s conference schedule.
- Ranking college football’s best QBs through Week 13: Trask remains at the top: It’s a quarterback-driven sport, and the production at the position has never been better.
- Gators basketball recruit Kowacie Reeves jumps in 247Sports’ new recruits rankings: Reeves Jr., a wing who checks in as a 6-foot-7-inch high school senior, signed a letter of intent with the Gators in November and is the team’s top basketball recruit.
It’s great to be a Florida Gator!
