2020 is officially over, turning the page on one of the most difficult and tumultuous years in recent memory over to a fresh 2021 full of hope. However, it was yet another successful year for Florida Gators athletics as a whole, as UF once again maintained its status as one of the preeminent college sports institutions in the nation.
Unfortunately, that success did not carry over last night for the women’s basketball team in their final game of 2020, who dropped their rescheduled road match with the fifth-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks, 75-59. Florida was simply outmatched in this one, dropping their record to 7-2, though the Lady Gators scored 29 third-quarter points — the most scored in a period against South Carolina this season.
Sophomore guard Lavender Briggs, Preseason All-SEC selection, once again led the way with 23 points, six rebounds and three assists — the fifth time she has scored 20 or more points and her eighth double-figure scoring effort this season. The women’s squad next faces the ninth-ranked Texas A&M Aggies on Sunday in the O’Connell Center, with tip off scheduled for 1 p.m. EST.
