Gators News: Football season is over but basketball rolls along

Florida disappointed on the field last night in the Cotton Bowl, but MBK emerged from its slumber to sock Vandy while WBK plays again today.

Well folks, it did not end like we wanted it to, but the Florida Gators’ football season has finally concluded after a thumping at the hands of the Oklahoma Sooners last night in the Cotton Bowl, 55-20. While a four-loss season almost seemed unfathomable a month ago, a three-game losing streak that bridged the regular season to the postseason doomed UF to an 8-4 record to wrap up a COVID-altered year.

However, there was some good news last night as the men’s basketball team was back in action after an 18-day layoff due to Keyontae Johnson‘s health condition. The Gators traveled to Nashville to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores and came away with a 91-72 win in their SEC opener thanks to a breakout game from transfer center Colin Castleton. Florida next faces the LSU Tigers on Saturday at home, with tip off scheduled for 2 p.m. EST.

The Lady Gators are back on the court this afternoon to take on the fifth-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks in Columbia, S.C. in a game that was rescheduled when Vandy reported positive COVID cases. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. EST and can be watched on ESPNU or heard on WRUF ESPN 98.1 FM/850 AM.
