Gators News: COVID-19 postpones SEC football, men’s golf finishes season

Alabama-LSU, Texas A&M-Tennessee and Auburn-Mississippi State were all postponed due to COVID-19 outbreaks while UF sports continues.

It is Wednesday again, which means we are halfway to another gameday Saturday, with the Arkansas Razorbacks coming to town to face the Florida Gators on the football field.

The big news comes from around the Southeastern Conference, which has three games postponed this weekend due to COVID-19 outbreaks: Alabama-LSU, Texas A&M-Tennessee and Auburn-Mississippi State. The conference announced Tuesday that a combination of positive tests, contact tracing and quarantining will force Saturday’s Alabama at LSU game, as well as Texas A&M at Tennessee, to be postponed; a day earlier, the SEC announced the postponement of Auburn at Mississippi State.

In Gators sports, the men’s golf team finished the third and final round of the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate — also their final tournament of the season — posting a 7-over par overall score of 847 to finish in 10th place.

Today, the volleyball team travels to South Carolina for a back-to-back match with the Gamecocks. Florida is currently ranked fourth in the nation and carries a 4-0 (4-0 SEC) record while the Gamecocks are ranked No. 15 with a 4-2 (4-2 SEC) coming in.
