The Southeastern Conference announced on Sunday morning that the Florida Gators men’s basketball team’s next scheduled game at the Tennessee Volunteers on Wednesday, Feb. 10, has been postponed due to COVID-19 protocols. No makeup date has been announced yet.
Here is an excerpt from the press release provided by FloridaGators.com.
The Georgia at Texas A&M and Florida at Tennessee men’s basketball games of February 10 have been postponed due to a combination of positive tests, contact tracing and subsequent quarantining of individuals within the Texas A&M and Florida basketball programs, consistent with Southeastern Conference COVID-19 management requirements. Make-up dates for the two games have not been determined at this time.
Previously, Saturday’s game on the road against the LSU Tigers was postponed in the initial response to the positive tests and contract tracing, and the latest news does not come as a complete surprise. That said, it is a huge gut-punch to the basketball program and the Gator Nation as a whole.
Depending on how well the program has the virus contained, there could be more postponements in the near future as well. But hopefully, the Gators can get past its second COVID-19 outbreak of the season and get back on track to an NCAA Tournament appearance.
