Gators back on ESPN bracketology bubble after beating Mizzou

Florida’s wins over LSU and Missouri have ESPN’s Joe Lunardi thinking that the Gators are once again NCAA Tournament-bound.

The Florida Gators men’s basketball team is once again in play for an NCAA Tournament spot, according to Joe Lunardi of ESPN‘s latest projections.

Lunardi has Florida in his Next Four Out, which is what he calls the back half of his top eight teams that fall just short of making the field of 68. Southern California, Utah State and Virginia Tech join Florida in the category behind Kentucky, Northwestern, Texas A&M and West Virginia in the First Four Out.

The Gators will get a chance to prove themselves against the Aggies this week but still have an ugly 29-point loss on record to WVU. The Gators will travel to Lexington to face Kentucky on Feb. 4 and host a rematch on Feb. 22 at the O’Connell Center. Also working against Florida is the 62-53 loss to Oklahoma on Dec. 20. The Sooners are Lunardi’s Last Four In, so Florida will need to make up for that loss in some way to pass them.

ESPN projects five programs from the SEC to make the field: Alabama is the No. 1 seed in the East; Tennessee is the No. 2 seed in the South; Auburn is the No. 6 seed in the East; Arkansas is the No. 6 seed in the West; and Missouri is a No. 9 seed in the Midwest.
