Gary Parrish mock draft: Thunder select shooting guard Jahmi’us Ramsey

The Oklahoma City Thunder picked Texas Tech shooting guard Jahmi’us Ramsey in Gary Parrish’s CBS Sports mock draft.

The Oklahoma City Thunder went with another guard, this one a knockdown 3-point shooter, in Gary Parrish’s mock draft for CBS Sports’.

The Thunder took Texas Tech freshman Jahmi’us Ramsey, known best for his catch-and-shoot abilities.

Ramsey led the Red Raiders with 15.0 points per game and contributed 4.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists while shooting 44.2% from the field and 42.6% from deep.

CBS Sports’ Gary Parrish wrote:

Ramsey was a borderline top-35 prospect coming out of high school who, just like Zhaire Smith and Jarrett Culver before him, developed into a projected first-round pick after working with Chris Beard at Texas Tech.

Ramsey could help spread the floor for a team that more often favors defensive-focused guards and wings, which led to a lack of 3-point ability off the bench beyond Dennis Schroder this season.

With Ramsey’s athleticism, he has potential to be a solid 3-and-D player, one who can be particularly adept at the “3” part. That defense needs to improve though for him to have the second half of that descriptor down.

There are other questions than defense. His playmaking isn’t up-to-speed with the NBA, and he would likely be in a role that makes him primarily a catch-and-shooter. Ramsey needs to improve as a finisher at the rim, but if he can, it can open up more 3-pointers for him so defenders won’t close as hard at the NBA level.

From Parrish:

There are concerns about what else he does really well besides make shots. But shot-making is super important in today’s NBA. So Ramsey should be selected in the first round — maybe in the teens but definitely in the 20s.
