Garrett Riley tries to help Lincoln Riley and USC this weekend

If Garrett Riley can coach Clemson’s offense to a great game vs Florida State, he could boost USC’s playoff chances.

The setup is remarkable. You can’t make this stuff up, can you?

The brother of a prominent college football head coach is in a position to make his older brother’s life a lot easier. Moreover, if this man does help his older brother, he could register an achievement which will enable him to join his older brother as a Power Five collegiate head coach.

It is widely felt in the college football industry that Garrett Riley, younger brother of USC head coach Lincoln Riley, will eventually become a Power Five head coach. It’s just a matter of time. Garrett Riley led TCU to the national championship game last season. He is a gifted offensive play-caller — not on the level of Lincoln, but certainly at a high level.

If he can coach Clemson’s offense to a great performance which defeats Florida State on Saturday, Garrett Riley will enable USC to clearly vault past Florida State in the College Football Playoff race. Beyond that, however, Riley will become that much more of a hot commodity in the coaching industry. He might get offers from Power Five programs this December if he can upend Florida State. Wouldn’t that be something?
