[autotag]Garrett Nussmeier[/autotag] could have entered the transfer portal this offseason and likely would have landed as a starter at a number of schools across the Power Five.
Instead, he chose to remain at LSU, wait for his time to come and continue to work under quarterbacks coach [autotag]Joe Sloan[/autotag]. Speaking to the media recently, Nussmeier detailed his relationship with Sloan and explained why he’s able to get the most out of him.
“Like I told them earlier, one of the first conversations me and Coach Sloan had, he told me that he believed that you know he was the best coach in the country to coach me,” Nussmeier said, per On3. “And I think that could be true because we’re very similar. I get very emotional at times, and he’s the same way. So he’s quick to get on to me, but I love it. I’m used to it, and that’s the way I want it to be. I don’t want to be coached to be average. I want to be coached to be the best I can be. So, I have a lot of love for coach Sloan and the way that he coaches me. So it’s been fun.”
Though [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] has the starting job locked down in 2023, this looks to be Nussmeier’s team in 2024 and beyond. And it seems his relationship with Sloan is one of the primary factors that kept him in Baton Rouge this season.
