Garrett Crochet debuts in MLB playoffs

Garrett Crichet’s playoff appearance in White Sox loss to Oakland

OAKLAND — Garrett Crochet made his Major League playoff debut Thursday afternoon in a decisive Wild Card series game.

The former University of Tennessee baseball player faced two batters in a relief appearance for the Chicago White Sox in their 6-4 loss to the Oakland Athletics at O.co Coliseum.

Crochet, a hard-throwing left hander, struck out both Oakland batters he faced and was lifted by Chicago manager Rick Renteria after facing those hitters.

Crochet was the No. 11 overall pick in the recent 2020 Major League Baseball draft. He was the first player from that draft to make a Major League Roster.

The former Vol was called up during the latter stages of the regular season and made five relief appearances for the White Sox, while the team was en route to the playoffs.

During that stint, he had eight strike outs and surrendered just three hits in over six innings.
