For the first time in the history of this heated rivalry between the Oregon Ducks and Washington Huskies, the game will be played in Week 14, better known as “Rivalry Week” in the world of college football.
With the two teams’ move from the Pac-12 to the Big Ten, this storied rivalry was moved to the end of the year, a week that had been home to games against the Oregon State Beavers and Washington State Cougars.
On Saturday, we learned this highly-anticipated contest will take place at 4:30 p.m. and be televised on NBC.
While this game may not be as highly anticipated in broader college football circles as in years past when both teams were ranked, it’s hard to argue there is no game Oregon fans have been looking forward to more this season.
The Huskies have won the last three games against the Ducks, and Dan Lanning has never beaten Washington since taking over at Oregon. This is the year that is expected to change, though.
Oregon is ranked No. 1 in the nation and is a strong national championship contender.
Washington has had a brutal year following their loss in the national championship in January. Former coach Kalen DeBoer left to take the same job with the Alabama Crimson Tide, and a large portion of the Huskies’ starting lineup left either for the NFL or into the transfer portal.
The Huskies are 6-5 with losses to Washington State, Rutgers, Iowa, Indiana and Penn State. Meanwhile, Oregon is 11-0 for the first time since 2010, and the second time in program history.
After how the rivalry played out last year in Seattle and in Las Vegas, in the Pac-12 Conference championship game, you get a sense the Ducks are looking for some vengeance in the 2024 Cascade Clash.
