In light of a tough loss to the Longhorns earlier in the day, No. 2 Texas A&M quickly bounced back to punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament Regional Final thanks to a 4-2 win over No. 3 Texas State.
Saturday evening’s battle featured a rematch of 24 hours before, with the outcome proving much the same as the Aggies sent the Bobcats packing for the second time in two nights. After the bats weren’t in their favor earlier in the day, the Maroon and White got on the board early with two quick runs at the top of the fourth inning.
Morgan Smith doubled a ball to allow Julia Cottrill to score for Texas A&M’s first run of the matchup. Not long after, Aiyana Coleman hit an RBI single to give the Maroon and White a quick 2-0 lead.
From that point forward, the Aggies would cease to surrender the lead to Texas State.
Trinity Cannon effectively ended the Bobcats’ hopes with a single to allow Star Ferguson and Koko Wooley to score, giving Texas A&M a commanding 4-0 lead in the fifth inning. And yet, the Bobcats would go down swinging, literally, as Anna Jones’ two-run double allowed Sara Vanderford and Hannah Earls to add two runs on the board, cutting the deficit 4-2.
From that point forward, Emiley Kennedy would shut down the Bobcats’ bats and help the Aggies punch their ticket to the regional final.
