The Dallas Cowboys had high hopes for their 2020 season, but they certainly didn’t play like it in their season opening game, a road trip to the Los Angeles Rams. Dallas christened the new SoFi Stadium but were unable to walk away victorious, losing 20-17. To make matters worse, Dallas suffered a number of injuries that are of major concern.
Leighton Vander Esch, Blake Jarwin and Cam Erving all seemed to suffer serious injuries in the first half. Meanwhile, the Dallas defense allowed the Rams to gash them with screens and short passes and run up the middle seemingly at will. Sean McVay’s game plan seemed to be to keep the Cowboys’ pass rush from every sniffing Jared Goff and it worked. A late comeback was thwarted by a highly questionable offensive pass interference call on wideout Michael Gallup, but Dallas shouldn’t have been in that position to begin with. The loss drops the Cowboys to 0-1 on the season.
Leading Passer: Dak Prescott 25 of 39, 266 yards, 1 TD 92.5 rating
Leading Rusher: Ezekiel Elliott, 22 rushes for 96 yards, 1 TD
Leading Receiver: Robert Woods, 6 receptions, 105 yards
The Cowboys will take on the Atlanta Falcons next Sunday at AT&T Stadium in the club’s home opener. Atlanta lost their home opener in Week 1 38-25 against the Seattle Seahawks.
