In a slightly better offensive showing No. 21 Texas A&M (21-11) shut out UIW (11-15-1) 6-0 in the second-midweek game. A good thing that showed up in the game was how the pitching was able to hold the Cardinals at bay, Coach Ford felt better about game two, but she is still looking for more out of her team.
Grace Uribe got off to a solid start by retiring the first three batters in order. Junior Trinity Cannon started the scoring off with a career first hitting her first triple to get Julia Cottrill across the plate to go up 1-0 in the first inning.
Now, this is where Coach Ford was a little pleased and frustrated at the same time with her Aggies. Uribe kept Incarnate Word scoreless through four innings, but the bats disappeared after the Cannon triple. So, going into the bottom of the fourth inning Texas A&M only had one additional hit.
So going into the bottom of the fourth inning I’m not sure if the team felt Coach Ford’s urgency, but they finally got a nice rally going to extend their lead. Cannon, Koko Wooley, and Rylan Wiggins all reached base safely to load the bases for Graclyn Coleman. Her base hit almost looked like it could be a double play but some savvy base running by Wooley saw her score after Cannon was thrown out at home a few seconds earlier.

Aiyana Coleman loaded the bases again after being walked which eventually led to Keely Williams also being walked to push the lead to 3-2. Finally, Morgan Smith hit a two-run RBI single through the right side to extend the lead again to 5-2.
Uribe was swapped out so Shaylee Ackerman could close out the game. Very similar to Uribe, Ackerman had a strong outing as well striking out three of the first six batters she faced allowing no hits going into the bottom of the sixth.
To finish out the scoring, G. Coleman hit a full-count double and Star Ferguson came into her to pinch run. Her speed came into play when she was able to score off a fielder’s choice after Williams made it to first safely.
Even though UIW got two hits, the infield defense got another double play on the season putting them great position to leave a goose egg on the board. That is exactly what happened with the final out giving the Aggies a 6-0 win.
I would like to reiterate how great of a situation this was to get Uribe and Ackerman some more innings on the mound before going back into SEC play.
Final Score: Aggies 6, Cardinals 0 – W: Uribe, Grace (1-0); L: Gunther, Annie (5-3) S: Ackerman, Shaylee (2)
The Aggies will be back in action to start a three-game series starting on March 31st at 5 pm at Davis Diamond to take on No. 3 Tennessee.
