Game One Recap: Baseball – Texas A&M vs No. 7 Arkansas

Texas A&M stumbles out of the gate losing game one to the No. 7 Arkansas Razorbacks 5-7

Seems like the Razorbacks cleats were made for walking in game one as they were gifted 14 free bases from the Aggie pitchers. Texas A&M (25-17, 9-10 SEC) put six pitchers on the mound, and they all walked at least one batter. Without all those walks it’s very possible the Aggies are able to keep three to four runs off the board, but that wasn’t the case, and Arkansas (31-11, 12-7 SEC) was able to take advantage.

Texas A&M immediately put themselves in a hole in the second inning when they walked three batters in a row. That eventually led to a run being scored from a single and followed up by a grand slam to go up 5-0.

The Aggies would make a game of it though in the fourth inning. Jordan Thompson hit a hit run homer and two batters later Hunter Haas hit a solo home run to bring the score to 4-5 going into the fifth. The Maroon & White tied the game with a Austin Bost sac fly in the top of the fifth 5-5.

Neither team but across the plate until Arkansas broke the tie with a two-run homerun after a walk to take the lead 5-7. That gave Texas A&M a chance to make a statement with three of the better hitters in the lineup. However, Jack Moss grounded out, Trevor Werner struck out, and Brett Minnich popped one up to third base for an easy out for a final score of 5-7.

Final Score: Aggies 5, Razorbacks 7 – W: Smith, Hagen (6-1); L: Garica, Brandyn (1-1)

Game two will be at 6 pm on April 28th.
