Look, I don’t think we’re getting a complete Season 8 do-over of Game of Thrones, even after all the criticism of the series finale and other episodes.
It seems more likely to me that a cryptic tweet from the official GoT Twitter account — “Winter is coming” — might have been the beginning of a marketing blitz surrounding one or more of the series’ spinoffs or the prequel.
Think of it this way: if the angle is that winter is coming (which hung over the characters for most of the series), then isn’t that a jump to the past?
Fans didn’t necessarily see it that way. They thought some kind of Season 8 re-do was a possibility (and some said, leave it alone, which I agree with):
Winter is coming.

They gave Zack Snyder 70 something million bucks to "fix" Justice League.
Fix season 8. You could probably do it in three episodes. https://t.co/27qMD3iFjC
