Clemson football suffered its first loss of the season against Notre Dame on Saturday night, and it was an eye-opening one.
Between quarterback switches, turnovers and a lack of physicality on defense, the Tigers had their worst collective performance of the season.
After the game, head coach Dabo Swinney didn’t mince words when it came to how he thought his team played.
“This was an ass-kicking, period,” Swinney said. “That’s what it is. Just flat-out got our tails handed to us. That’s unfortunate. It hasn’t happened a lot, but it’s happened a few times along the way. We’ve handed out a bunch of them, too. Tonight, we were the bug. We got the bad end of that deal, and we deserved every second of it.”
Still, the Tigers clinched the Atlantic Division on Saturday and will look to close out the regular season with three games at home.
