Future Hoops Foes: Week One Recap of Week Two’s Opponents

Get a quick preview of each team this week on the schedule.

San Diego State Aztecs

Wed, Nov. 13th

Grand Canyon Antelopes:

The Lopes are searching for their first win after going 0-2 in week one. A 9 point upset on opening night to Davenport University was followed by a 12 point loss to Illinois on Friday. Look out for former Northwestern Wildcat Isiah Brown who is leading the Lopes with 16.5 PPG in week one. And don’t forget about Carlos Johnson who is averaging 13.5 PPG, 7.0 RPG, 1.5 SPG and made our list of the top 25 players on opposing rosters to watch out for in non-conference play to check out below.

San Jose State Spartans

Thur, Nov. 14th

19 Arizona Wildcats:

Sean Miller and company are 2-0 and even though you have to keep your eye on freshmen Josh Green and Nico Mannion, forward Zeke Nnaji is the one freshman to watch at the moment. Through two convincing wins he has averaged 19.5 PPG a head of both McDonald’s All Americans. The Wildcats have a couple of non-conference tests on their schedule but I don’t see them having trouble against the Spartans at home.

Sun, Nov. 17th

Simpson University (CA):

The Redhawks of Simpson University are 1-3 on the season and will face three division one opponents including the Spartans. They are coming off of a 49 point loss to Sacramento State in week one.

Nevada-Las Vegas Running Rebels

Tues, Nov. 12th

California Golden Bears:

Cal only had one game this past week as they took down Lorenzo Romar’s Pepperdine squad by 16 points Tuesday night. They were led by sophomore guard Matt Bradley who led his team with 25 points. Watch out for him and former Boise State guard Paris Austin when they play the Rebels Tuesday night.

Fri, Nov. 15th

UCLA Bruins:

Mick Cronin is off to a 2-0 start with a close win over Long Beach State on Wednesday (69-64) and a more convincing win against UCSB (77-61) on Sunday. The Bruins are led by redshirt freshman guard Tyger Campbell, who is averaging 15 PPG, 5 APG and 5 RPG. Look for his signature hair on Friday as they take on the Running Rebels at home.

No. 17 Utah State Aggies

Tues, Nov. 12th

Denver Pioneers:

The Pioneers are coming off of a nice 12 point win against Utah Valley this past week and a loss to fellow Mountain West member Colorado State. Make sure to watch senior guard Ade Murkey who had 18 points against the Wolverines.

Fri, Nov. 15th

North Carolina A&T Aggies:

A Ronald Jackson led Aggie team is 1-1 on the season after an impressive win against Charleston Southern at home where Jackson had a double-double. They also had a 33 point loss at UNC-Greensboro to open the season.

Wyoming Cowboys

Wed, Nov. 13th

CSU Fullerton Titans:

The Titans are 0-2 after suffering losses to BYU and Stanford in week one. They lost some talented seniors last season but are being led by another this year, Austen Awosika is averaging 12.5 PPG, 6.5 RPG and 1.5 APG.

Sat, Nov. 16th

Oregon State Beavers:

Wayne Tinkle and his son are 2-0 on the year with a 20 point win against CSUN and 6 point win against Iowa State this past weekend. Tres Trinkle is having a really good start to the season averaging 26.5 PPG, 10.5 RPG, 5.5 APG and 2.5 BPG through his first two games. I would take a look at how the Beavers handle a tough Oklahoma team on Tuesday before watching them take on the Cowboys Saturday.
