Furkan Korkmaz reacts to big night in Sixers home win over Nets

Philadelphia 76ers guard Furkan Korkmaz reacts to a big offensive night for him.

The Philadelphia 76ers are trying to grow a shooter off their bench. Why not try the guy that has the reputation of being a shooter?

Furkan Korkmaz, in his third season with the Sixers, scored nine points in the fourth quarter while knocking down a couple from deep to help the Sixers beat the Nets 117-106 at home.

After three seasons with the team, he finally has a consistent role on the team and he is able to knock down shots comfortably and find a role here. It helps him when he actually knows what he’s going to be doing on a nightly basis.

“Finally in my third year I can say I’ve finally found my role with the team,” he said. “I’m trying to help the team in different ways. There are some ups and downs, of course, like every player, but I think this year I’m trying to play hard for the team and trying to help the team get the ‘W’. This is my third year in the organization, I know the coaching staff, I know the players, I’m having a better relationship every day with my teammates and my coaching staff. I think that gives me more confidence on the court.”

He and Ben Simmons seemed like they were in sync as Korkmaz was able to get to his spots and Simmons found him easily. Obviously playing with a guy for three seasons helps, but he still has to knock down shots.

“Every time I play with Ben, I know he’s going to look for the assist,” said Korkmaz. “His ability to create with the ball, he creates a lot of space for you. When I get in the game, I know he’s going to look for me and then I’m just going out there trying to score and he’s out there to create for us. I’m just trying to take advantage of him.”

If the Sixers can continue to get this type of production from Korkmaz, then they can continue to get the spacing they need offensively and then go on a run. All they really need is the spacing on that end for their big guys to operate and they can really find a groove offensively and as a whole. [lawrence-related id=23575,23576,23555]
