Furkan Korkmaz opens up on how Danny Green helps him, Sixers succeed

Philadelphia 76ers guard Furkan Korkmaz praises Danny Green for his and the team’s success.

The Philadelphia 76ers brought in Danny Green in the offseason because he is a proven shooter and can help space the floor on offense. However, other things Green brings to this team cannot be put into numbers.

Green is a 3-time champion, so he has been through playoff wars and he has experience winning at the highest level. The Sixers really need a guy like that who can help the team win right now.

He also is a proven leader, and he has helped younger guys such as Furkan Korkmaz understand how to get better and improve their games. Korkmaz had a career-high five steals in Saturday’s win and he credits Green for helping him on that end.

“To be honest, I like Danny’s mentality on defense,” said Korkmaz. “He’s trying to lead the first unit with Ben and Jo. Overall, he’s trying to be a team defense player and an individual really good defensive player. That’s what I learned from Danny.”

Korkmaz is known for his offense. He hops off the bench and fires a bunch of 3-pointers to help spread the floor. However, he has to contribute more consistently on the defensive end, and he is learning that from Green.

He is learning defense is just as important as the offense and when everybody is on the same page, it makes it tough to be scored on.

“He’s trying to do a team mentality,” Korkmaz explained of Green. “He’s trying to play team defense well. Then you’re good because you’re on the same page. All the five guys when you’re on the same page, you can guard anybody.”

It is not just Korkmaz either. Green is pulling so many players aside and giving them words of wisdom in order to help them and the team succeed. The players just need to be willing to listen.

“Not just defensively, offensively, too,” said Korkmaz. “He likes to talk. Danny likes to talk so he’s really helpful. I think it’s a good thing to have him around. He’s got rings, he’s got experience, we all got to be hungry to listen.”

The Sixers will look to finish the road trip strong on Monday against the Dallas Mavericks.
