Frida Formann, Maddie Nolan lead Buffs past Le Moyne in home opener

Frida Formann and Maddie Nolan combined for eight 3-pointers in Colorado’s home opener

Two days after beating No. 1 LSU, the Colorado women’s basketball team didn’t experience the hangover effect in its home opener against Le Moyne on Wednesday.

Eleven different Buffs scored points and their defense was once again impressive in a 97-38 win over the Dolphins.

Offensively, the Buffs were led by Frida Formann and Maddie Nolan, who each scored a team-high 15 points. Nolan, a Michigan transfer playing in her first regular season game at the CU Events Center, went 5-for-7 from behind the 3-point arc while Formann hit three from deep.

On an evening in which no Colorado starter played more than 22 minutes, Aaronette Vonleh had 13 points and a team-best 11 rebounds, Jaylyn Sherrod led the Buffs with eight assists and Missouri transfer Sara-Rose Smith impressed off the bench with 10 points and three offensive rebounds.

Freshmen Mikayla Johnson and Jadyn Atchinson also made their collegiate debuts, combining for 14 points and eight rebounds.

Le Moyne scored under 10 points in three different quarters and was held to 29.8% shooting.

Up next, Colorado hosts soon-to-be Big 12 foe Oklahoma State on Sunday at 4 p.m. MT.
